The National Planning Council is pleased to publish the 118 issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities of the State.
Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
This press release is intended to give a brief overview of the nature of these monthly permits and certificates in terms of their geographical distribution (according to the municipalities) and types of these permits and certificates as well as details about categories of the different types of buildings, whether they are residential or non-residential.
It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the National Planning Council and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.
First: Building Permits:
In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of October 2024, according to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 257 permits, i.e. 29% of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 185 permits, i.e. 21%, followed by municipality of Al Da'ayen with 158 permits, i.e.18%, then Al Wakrah municipality with 129 permits, i.e.15%.
The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Al Khor 70 permits (8%), Umm Slal 46 permits (5%), Al Sheehaniya 25 permits (3%), Al Shammal 14 permits (2%).
In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 36% (319 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of October 2024, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 61% (537 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (28 permits).
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas' top the list, accounting for 89% (247 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 9% (24 permits), and other residential buildings permits by 2% (5 permit).
On the other hand, industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 49% (21 permits), followed by service/infrastructure buildings with 26% (11 permits), then commercial and administration buildings permits with 7% (3 permits).
Comparing number of permits issued in October 2024 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general increase of 8%. This increase was noted in most of the municipalities: Al Shammal (40%), Al Khor (30%), Al Doha (25%), Al Rayyan (16%), Al Da'ayen (9%), Al Wakrah (2%), On the other hand, there was a clear decrease in the municipalities of: Al Sheehaniya (40%), Umm Slal (36%).
Secondly: Building Completion Certificates:
In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of October 2024, according to their geographical distribution, we find that municipality of Al Wakrah come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 101 certificates, i.e. (27%) of the total issued certificates, while Al Rayyan municipality came in second place with 83 certificates, i.e. (22%), followed by municipality of Al Doha with 68 certificates (18%), then municipality of Al Da'ayen with 67 certificates, i.e. (18%).
The rest of the municipalities were as follows:
Umm Slal 23 certificates 6%, Al Khor and Al Sheehaniya 14 certificates 4% each municipality, Al Shammal 5 certificates 1%.
In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 86% (321 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of October 2024, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 14% (54 certificates).
By analysing new residential buildings completion certificates data, we find that villas' top the list, accounting for 87% (209 certificates) of all new residential building's completion certificates, followed by apartments buildings by 9% (21 certificates), then other residential buildings certificates by 4% (11 certificates).
On the other hand, commercial and administration buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 44% (35 certificates), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 30% (24 certificates), then service/infrastructure buildings with 13% (10 certificates).
Comparing number of certificates issued in October 2024 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 9%. This decrease was clearly noted in the municipalities of: Al Shammal (50%) Al Sheehaniya (22%), Al Wakrah (14%), Al Rayyan (13%), Al Khor (7%), Al Doha (4%), On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipalities of: Umm Slal (44%), while Al Da'ayen municipality remain the same number of issued certificates.
