The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 85th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis. In this issue, we highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during January 2021 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census.
One of the most prominent changes in this issue is the rise in the Market General Index (Point), which reached 10474 points during January 2021; a monthly increase of 0.4% compared to December 2020, and an annual increase of 0.3% compared to January 2020. Moreover, the issued cash increased to 26615 (MN QR) during January 2021; a monthly increase of 1.3% compared to December 2020, and annual increase of 52.3% compared to January 2020.
Furthermore, among the most notable changes is the increase in the total number of ships arriving at Qatar's ports and total net tonnage of ships, at a monthly rate of 2.0% and 2.6%, respectively (compared to December 2020).
The demographic statistics revealed that the total population of Qatar has decreased from 2.77 million during January 2020 to 2.67 million at end of January 2021.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 1934 live births have been registered during January 2021. Also, a decrease in the total Qatari live births by 5.0% compared to last month. On the other hand, 212 deaths were recorded during the same period, a decrease of 4.1% compared to December 2020.
Moreover, January 2021 has experienced a monthly decrease by 1.7% and 8.0% respectively in marriage contracts and divorce certificates. The total number of marriage contracts was 404 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 195 divorce cases.
As for the Social Security statements, reached 82 Million Qatari Riyals in January 2021, for 14497 beneficiaries, Recording a monthly decrease of 1.1% for the value of social security and a monthly increase of 0.3% for the number of beneficiaries of Social Security.
Total electricity consumption during January 2021 was 2562.0 GWh attaining a monthly decrease of 6.0% and an annual decrease of 2.6%. While the total water consumption has reached 50205.1 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 6.8% and an annual decrease of 3.6%.
Regarding the data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 1382 permits during January 2021, recording a monthly increase of 42.2% and an annual rise of 98.6%.
Traffic accidents cases without counting the accidents without injuries, a total of 661 traffic cases were recorded during January 2021, showing a monthly increase of 5.1% and an annual decrease by 4.6%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents cases during the same month, with 89%, followed by severe injuries by 9%. However, 16 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2% of total traffic accidents cases.
The total number of registered new vehicles during January 2021 has reached 5468 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 6.1% and an annual decrease of 7.7%.
As for the Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 596.6 Billion Qatari Riyals during January 2021, an annual increase of 0.8% compared with January 2020. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 901.1 Billion Qatari Riyals during January 2021. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 3.2% compared to January 2020, when deposits recorded approximately 872.9 Billion Qatari Riyals.
