​The Planning and Statistics Authority has released the 76th issue of (Qatar; Monthly Statistics) bulletin; a series of statistical newsletters released on a monthly basis.  In this issue, we highlighted the most important statistical changes that occurred in the country during April 2020 in addition to extracts from the results of the 2015 Census. 


Several indicators for April 2020 changed; either by going up as noted in the total electricity generated and used (the monthly change was 11.8% and 13.1%, respectively, compared to March 2020) or by going down as witnessed in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) since the general household consumption decreased by 1.33% (the largest  drop occurred in transportation services by 4.85%, followed by restaurants and hotels with a decrease of 2.51%, compared to March 2020).

Real estate indicators were also affected, as the number of sold properties decreased by 25% compared to the previous month and by nearly 40% compared to April 2019.
With respect to the positive changes, there were a decline in traffic violations by 62% compared to the previous month, as well as a drop in traffic accident cases by approximately 40% compared to the previous month.

The demographic statistics revealed that the total population of Qatar has increased from 2.772 million during April 2019 to 2.805 million at end of April 2020.
Regarding to Vital Statistics, 687 live births have been registered during April 2020. Also, a decrease in the total Qatari live births by 39.9% compared to last month. On the other hand, 166 deaths were recorded during the same period, an increase of 24.9% compared to March 2020. 

Moreover, April 2020 has experienced a monthly decrease by 46.4% and 85.2% respectively in marriage contracts and divorce certificates. The total number of marriage contracts was 150 contracts, whereas the total No. of divorces has reached 12 divorce cases; namely, one divorce for every 13 marriages. 
As for the Social Security statements, reached 84 Million Qatari Riyals in April 2020, for 15411 beneficiaries.

Total electricity consumption during April 2020 was 3187.9 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 13.1% and an annual decrease of 0.1%. While the total water consumption has reached 51570.7 Thousand m3 during the same month attaining a monthly decrease of 3.3% and an annual rise of 2.9%. 
Regarding the data of buildings permits issued, the total number of permits has reached 483 permits during April 2020, recording a monthly decrease of 24.2%.

Traffic accidents cases without counting the accidents without injuries, a total of 329 traffic cases were recorded during April 2020, showing a monthly decrease of 31.9%. Light injuries are accounted for the vast majority of traffic accidents cases during the same month, with 88%, followed by severe injuries by 10%. However, 6 deaths were recorded, equivalent to only 2% of total traffic accidents cases.

The total number of registered new vehicles during April 2020 has reached 2535 new vehicles. The figure showed a monthly decrease of 41.0% and an annual decrease of 55.6%. 

As for the Banking Sector; Total Broad Money Supply (M2) recorded about 584.7 Billion Qatari Riyals during April 2020, an annual increase of 4.8% compared with April 2019. On the other hand, cash equivalents; including Commercial Bank Deposits, attained for 879.3 Billion Qatari Riyals during April 2020. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 9.8% compared to April 2019, when deposits recorded approximately 800.8 Billion Qatari Riyals.
